According to Professor Richard Sander’s quantitative analysis, the vast majority of American law students come from relatively elite backgrounds. At the most prestigious law schools, only 5% of all students come from families whose socioeconomic status is in the national distribution’s bottom half. While awarding financial aid, law schools award low-income students half as much money in scholarships and grants as their high-income counterparts.
